Hathaway Batman’s Leading Lady?

Anne Hathaway and Keira Knightley are reportedly just a couple of actresses now auditioning for the lead female role in the hotly anticipated new Batman film, The Dark Knight Rises.

Rumours abound as to the role in question, with the odds on favourite being Talia al Ghul, the villainess and daughter of Batman Begins baddie Ra al Ghul as played by Liam Neeson. Previous reports pointed towards a possible appearance of long time Bat-villain/love interest Catwoman, whilst some claim that a second female player may take shape in the guise of Vicki Vale. Vale was the Bat’s main love interest in the 1989 Tim Burton original and was portrayed by Kim Bassinger.

Maggie Gyllenhaal replaced Katie Holmes to take the leading lady role of Rachel Dawes in the last instalment, before meeting a grisly end. With The Dark Knight being the most successful comic book adaptation of all time, and director Christopher Nolan being on a too-good-to-be-true winning streak, it’s little wonder that Hollywood’s female elite are lining up for the role. Actresses Jessica Biel, Naomi Watts and Eva Green have also been rumoured for contention.
