The Riddler for Batman 3?

Inception: Jospeh Gordon-Levitt has already appeared in one Nolan film

First Showing are reporting from “a reliable inside source” that according to a casting grid currently floating around Warner Bros., The Ridder is due to be seen next in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight sequel, currently known as ‘Batman 3’. The report also claims that Joseph Gordon-Levitt is “interested” in the role.

These casting grids are known throughout the industry as a means of organisation for a film’s production as well as agencies and for the production company. As First Showing has stressed, this is, at this moment, just a rumour.

The Riddler was last seen in 1995’s Batman Forever (Joel Schumacher) and was portrayed by Jim Carrey. The performance was nominated for an MTV Award for ‘Best Villain’ and the film was met with mixed reviews although in recent years it has gained a cult following.

What is interesting about the claim, is the use of Levitt in Nolan’s summer smash hit Inception and Nolan’s frequent re-use of actors in his films. Levitt is best known for his roles in 10 Things I Hate About You, Brick and 2009’s (500) Days of Summer, for which he gained international acclaim as Tom Hansen, who feel in love with Zooey Deschanel’s Summer Finn as their chaotic love story was played out in an anti-love tale.

‘Batman 3’ is due for release in 2012.
