After the success of ‘Memento’ and ‘Insomnia’ director Christopher Nolan decided to try something different and re-imagined the Batman character. It was a bold move and the results are clear. Batman Begins, starts from the very beginning as the title suggests. So forgot all the previous versions – this is something new and improved.
It explores the origins of Batman. After the murder of his parents Bruce Wayne grows up lonely and travels the world seeking to fight injustice. After basically living as a criminal and understanding what makes them tick he then links up with Liam Neeson in a bid to save the world from imploding in on itself.
Bruce Wayne returns to Gotham City and sets about stalking the villains throughout the night as you’d expect. What you don’t expect is the very plausible way in which he goes about this. This incarnation of the masked crusader is strong, intelligent and has a vast array of secret military prototype weaponry. Michael Caine takes on the role of the ever faithful butler Alfred and does a great job.
Chistian Bale was an excellent choice for the new brand of darker Batman and the supporting cast don’t let you down either. A stunning vision that was turned into a proper film. Genius!
