Hippies satanists are going around the back roads of small town America. They are looking for the next thrill and the next glorious kill. They find a town and rape a local girl, feed LSD to a granddad and attack children. This causes anger and also a rotted and toxic meat pies being eaten as revenge. Now the town has cannibal hippies. They love eating, violence and the splatter of human flesh.
Grind-house cinema and the ’42nd’ street craze has lead to re evaluations of some of the better sleaze and trash films. I Drink Your Blood is such a film. It is blood soaked (its X rated cut was for violence and not sex as was the norm) and sadistic. Sardonic and subversive in its casual humour. It is also very violent and volatile as well. I didnt like the film having wanted to see it for some time. I was left with a sense though that for some film fans of this movement, it is well worth a visit. It feels like it was inspired by Gordon Lewis splatter films, ethnic rage and hippy hatred. It feels often confused and overall it lacks cohesion. I would however guess some will delight in its darkly comical tones.
Both cuts look great on the disk. I X rated is the better film, albeit barely. The deleted scenes are worth exploring for the out and out violence spree ending. The commentary is a hoot. To hear what Bhaskar, (a name that translate from hindi into English as ‘Sun’) talk about the making of such a film and in such a way is quite compelling. He is also very engaged.
