Mapping Festival 2011: Visual – Audio & Deviant Electronics
19-29 May 2011
Held over the space of ten days, this years Mapping Festival, the 7th in total was a real triumph. The festival is in essence an experimental platform for all people involved in the world of visual arts. The festival programme was made up of workshops, lectures, presentations, audio-visual performances, club nights, a VJ contest and other visual based artistry.
Here is a short sample of what you missed…
This years festival was held across 6 venues: BAC, Fonderie Kugler, Palladium, Zoo, MAD, and the Spoutnik Cinema.
There were many moments of genius over the ten days and impossible to mention them all. Some of the major highlights included; The Inflatable Dancefloor, Zan Lyons, Simian Mobile Disco with Kate Moross. The audio visual work of ExLex. The pioneering work of VJ Fader and Tilman Porschuetz. Some of the audio-visual performances being presented here, were groundbreaking and will go on to big things around the world.
The festival also saw the launch of the MadMapper software – check out our full report from the launch party below.
This years VJ Contest was won by Kobored from Thailand, will he be back next year to defend his title? Runners up VJ Suave were close too, maybe they will return to have another go at claiming top spot?

The Mapping Festival itself is run as a not-for-profit organisation – so thanks to the hard work of the management team and the help from the 90 volunteers the festival was a huge success. Special thanks go to the Mapping Festival team, Gaëlle Amoudruz, Camille, Vamos Nessa, Steph, Boris (Modul8) and Francoise & Cinzia from 1024 Architecture and everyone else involved behind the scenes.
Be sure that Mapping Festival 2012 will be another step forward in the visual arts.
