What is the Mapping Festival?
It is held in Geneva, Switzerland and currently in its 7th year. It is a ten day festival celebrating the ever increasingly popular world of video projection mapping, video art and audio-visual performances. The festival is a meeting of minds across different disciplines. The festival comprises everything from lectures, conferences, live a/v performances, workshops, exhibitions through to cinema screenings, video installations and live DJ/VJ sets.
This year some new software is being launched called ‘Mad Mapper’, it is developed by Modul8, an established piece of vj software. This new version is a revolutionary way to create the fantastic 3D projection images that we are now seeing popping up all over the world.
The 2010 edition of the Mapping Festival held in Geneva, Switzerland brought over 10,000 people in 10 days from all across the globe. This year Front Row Reviews are here in Geneva to get the lowdown on some of the hottest new video based artists that are emerging in the scene.

We are currently just over half way through the festival and it has been amazing so far. Some great performances and very thought provoking and interesting content.

FRIDAY 27TH MAY
AV:LAB – onedotzero, Benge, Shantell Martin, Russian Visual Artists
Venue: Palladium, 14.00
AV:LAB is an offline course in the audio-visual arts and new media. Already across Europe and debuting this year for the first time at the Mapping Festival. Giving details of how to make a careers from the visual arts. For more info check Audio Visual Academy
VJ CONTEST – round 1
Venue: Spoutnik Cinema, 17.00
A contest to decide who are the best VJ’s of the moment, 22 entrants from around the world.
CAGOULE
Venue: Palladium, 20.00
A unique mix of live contemporary dance performance, sound and film. A theatrical experience for the senses.
DJ/VJ CLUBBING
Venue: Zoo, from 23.00
A nightclub showcase of some of the best DJ’s, VJ’s and Video Installations from around the world. Artists include; The Hiiters, Electric Rescue, D.I.M., Cumulus, Shadow Dancer and Skylab.
SATURDAY 28TH MAY
AV:LAB – Mr Vux, Antonio Guesa, U.V.A., Olga Mink
Venue: Palladium, 14.00

PASCAL GRECO
Venue: Palladium, 20.00
Director Pascal Greco launches his new film – Motion Sickness. A live performance including 4 musicians and documentary. No words – music alone tells the story.
