THE COMIC ARROW BLU RAY REVIEW

The best part of a joke is the punchline. Well its the part that most comedians and their audiences, what for. In a future dystopian police state, this is the world where only a laugh can make the world better. Orange bouffant-haired comedian Sam Coex (Steve Munroe) has a chance at the big time. He is eager for the break into the big time but its all political and getting to the top can be murder.  Joey Myers (Jeff Pirie) is already there on the big screen. He is not going to move anytime soon but then his throat is cut and its the beginning of the rise to success. Success is fickle however and as the bodies pile up, Sam soon finds his career dictated to by those in power.

THE COMIC is that not very rare thing, a dystopian satire. The 1980’s created lots of these. However in its essence is a direct assault on consumer capitalism and its feeding on those ascending the tower. It lacks a lot. The script is dull, its directed without humour and lacks richness of content.

But it does have that horrid, unsettling feeling that all you see is truth. The truth of people being awful, shitty bastards. The sort of people that would eat you and then shit you out. THE COMIC revels in this aspect of horror. The real human as biological game theory animal. I cant say it is done with subtlety or imagination but it delivers its points enough to make the film revealing of the time and place.  THE COMIC is not a masterwork or masterpiece but it is a wild ride into the era of excess.

DISC

The whole reason for 2K is to give us more. More of the quality, colour, tone and depth of field. Well it is wasted on this film. The total reliance on shallow focus and soft gel lighting defuses everything. I cant say it is terrible just I ask, what was the point?

EXTRAS

Nothing of interest. Munroe has little of value to say and if you find him dull or obnoxious then there is nothing else to explore…
