Halloween feature 50 days, 50 slays! Day 22 and 21 Who lives in a place like this… HOUSE ON SORRITY ROW and HOUSE

With 21 days to the big event, the anticipation is getting heated. You know the type of thing we are talking about, dry mouth, fidgeting and restless thoughts. With all this in mind, I am transported back to my halcyon days on campus, with the joys of a great future on the horizon. So for this to really sink in, we get all university focused and explore the lives of college students in horror cinema!

22 – THE HOUSE ON SORRIETY ROW (88 FILMS)

WHATS IT ABOUT?

Seven sorority sisters are desperate to throw a graduation party, Sadly the house mother is not so eager for it to happen. They play a prank on her to get her back for being mean but it goes horribly wrong. Now she is dead and the girls want to have the party, so they dump her in the pool and get the band to start the party. The only issue is the body has gone and been replaced by all of the party goers…

WHY SHOULD WE WATCH IT FOR HALLOWEEN?

A cult classic always needs a little plug. A cult classic like this one though, usually needs little introduction. THE HOUSE ON SORRIETY ROW is a film that needs no introduction. Taking the right blend of killer blows, silly laughs and gradient tension, it is a study in making a very good slasher flick. Though there are some rather massive plot holes (least of all the final twist that is slightly absurd), it is a very good Halloween night watch.

WHAT SHOULD WE LOOK OUT FOR?

Well once you finish the film, I really liked the commentary by Hysteria Lives Podcast team. Funny, on the money and detailed simply to make it interesting.

21 – HOUSE (HAUSU) (EUREKA)

WHATS IT ABOUT?

Distressed by her widowed father’s plans to remarry another woman, Angel sets off with six of her schoolgirl friends to a summer getaway in her aunt’s isolated mansion deep in the woods. The problem is that the mansion might not be the summer getaway they expect. It is a funnel of strange mystical events and bizarre apparitions. Floating heads and animated cats. Freaky madness and funny sadness. The question is, can Angel and her school friends survive the insanity!

WHY SHOULD WE WATCH IT FOR HALLOWEEN?

Well its bananas in a good way. Taking ample parts surreal and horrific swaps at the audience, its use of varied cinematic language, technique and the finale that is funny and freaky! Well worth your time and money!

WHAT SHOULD WE LOOK OUT FOR?

Before you go to bed, watch David Cairns essay. It deconstructs enough of the pieces to give any film fan or cineaste, a whole bunch of talking points for their next cinema discussion.
