Mapping Festival 2011: A/V Performance – Greie Gut Fraktion

@ Fonderie Kougler: Audio Visual Performance
Saturday 21st May, 10pm
Greie Gut Fraktion

Greie Gut Fraktion is the collaboration of German born sound poetess Antye Greie (AGF) and the Berlin techno lynchpin Gudrun Gut. To summise their style in two words, those two words would be ‘Industrial Poetry’. This evenings performance was titled “Baustelle” in English this translates to “Construction Sites”.

The performance consisted of a unique mix of minimal techno compiled from industrial machinery sounds with spoken word poetry performed live over the top – however still managing to maintain a pop edge. All mixed perfectly with live visuals of both past and present construction imagery. The performance was around an hour long, and could be best described as an abstract guided tour of the World’s construction sites. There is a brief clip below.

At the end of the performance, Antye Greie explained how the first piece in the sequence was actually based on an old German FDR song that she had to sing in school as a child. She remarked on what a strange girl she had grown up to be! It was a very thought provoking piece, non-linear in nature and it forced you to think for yourself to decode it deep meanings. Coupled with the spoken word it was a very powerful piece of work.

Here is another clip of Grie Gut Fraktion’s work, watched in combination with the other short clip above it gives you a better idea of their performance.
