REVENGE BLU RAY REVIEW

Coralie Fargeat REVENGE is a dose of vicious menace. Jen (Matilda Lutz) is the sort of girl who dreams of better and hopes that life will deal with her a bit fairer than it has to others. In her bed is Richard (Kevin Janssens), he is rich, arrogant and most importantly married. Richard has taken her to a desert retreat that is luxury but the reason there is sex, pure and simple. This intimacy is short, sharp and explosive. Their plans are interrupted when his two friends, setting out for a hunting trip, turn up two days early. These guys are shit balls and drool over the girl in the three mens vision. They dont know about Richard and Jen, they are more interested in Jen herself. The objectification of physical form is both unpleasent and also the male dominent. When Richard leaves to get licences extended to cover the extra day, their advances turn much uglier, culminating in a brutal assault. Maybe she will better off dead or maybe, just maybe its turn to hunt down those who wronged her.

REVENGE is explosive. Its Rape Revenge and New Exterme of the French order. It is certainly a stunning debut. Some of the extras, reveal how much Coralie Fargeat subverts genre. How much she took the bull by the horns and delivered a whip smart slap of body torture and gore. I am less impressed then its widespread critical acclaim, however, I can never deny the sheer brillance onscreen. The film rewards rewatches for myriad reasons, unpacked in detail with the commentary but its that first watch, leaving you with a taste of blood in the mouth, that needs to be delivered to you.
