Joss Whedon, the creator of TV gems Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the criminally cancelled Firefly, is in talks with Marvel about becoming the director of The Avengers. After putting Kenneth Branagh in the director’s chair for Thor, Marvel clearly are being bold in their recruitment choices, Whedon after all has only directed one film before (Firefly spin-off Serenity), albeit all kinds of awesome.
If he does end up securing the gig, Whedon will be tasked with bringing together Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr, Chris Hemsworth and Samuel L Jackson as Captain America, Iron Man, Thor and Nick Fury respectively. Hulk may also feature, as hero or villain, but Ed Norton’s presence is far from guaranteed. While some will doubt Whedon’s directorial credentials, others, us included, will rejoice that the man who has directed some of the most engrossing episodes of pulp TV in the last decade. Plus, the man wrote Toy Story, he knows how to spin a good yarn. For more info on The Avengers give our award winning* feature a read…
