The Bafta-winning drama-documentary gets the big-screen treatment with a live orchestral soundtrack.
A tale of life-changing decisions and survival against the odds, Touching the Void tells the true story of two British climbers and their near-death experience on a Peruvian mountain. Based on the autobiographical book by Joe Simpson, the film uses dramatised scenes interspersed with interviews with the mountaineer and his partner Simon Yates – all scored by the composer Alex Heffes.
Tonight Heffes’s sweeping crescendos and foreboding motifs – which perfectly echo the despondent situation Simpson found himself in – are brought to life as the 60-piece Touching the Void Orchestra play in synchronization with a screening of the film. And in a rare public appearance, Simpson discusses the film and his real-life story in a Q&A with composer Heffes and director Kevin Macdonald.
