Sky TV spent a lot of money producing this 4 part TV series and it there was no doubt they would release it as a box set.
Its based on the Martina Cole book about some shady characters from East London during the 80’s – 90’s and has adapted for the screen.
It stars the amazing Tom Hardy (RocknRolla, Bronson) in the lead role as bad boy Freddie Jackson. It begins with Freddie’s release from prison in 1984, who is picked up by his long time friend Jimmy, and so it begins…
This is a really gritty crime drama, excellent characters and plot developments of which there are some absolute shockers so i don’t want to give anything away. The filming is very stylised and classy, with good a good soundtrack to boot. In general it follows the ups and downs of the two friends, what dodgy business they get up to, how they make a pound note, who gets stitched up, who gets beaten up and who has kids.
I watched it on TV and was hooked from the first episode but unfortunately had to wait each week for the next installment. That is the real beauty of sets like this. You can just play on and watch the whole series back to back, like one big long epic London gangster story.
