June sees the return of The Playground Festival. This time around it comes to Brixton Academy, with almost 10,000 people expected across the weekend.
Split over 2 days with a slightly different feel for each night.
The Friday more dominated by broken beat and heavy baseline acts. Headlined by a Leftfield DJ set and a rare live performance from Digitalism, support from James Lavelle (UNKLE), James Zabelia, Kavinsky + many more. Full line-ups below.
The Saturday boasting more of a penchant for the techno, electro and glitch fans. Headline for this night, Squarepusher – with his latest Ufabulum show. The show has been gaining a lot of critical acclaim of late. His recent show at The Roundhouse was incredible. Also on the Saturday, electronic music pioneer Gary Numan performing live. Also on the bill, some of the ‘fathers’ of the Detroit techno scene – The Belleville Three A.K.A Derrick May, Kevin Saunderson and Juan Atkins.
Add to this the fact that festivals held in inner cities do have two main advantages over the traditional field based festivals. No worry of mud baths… and you can go home at the end of the night.
