Director, Stephen Daldry best known for ‘Billy Elliot’, ‘The Hours’ and the recent Academy pleaser starring Kate Winslet, ‘The Reader’ has been added to the ever expanding list of directors who Summit Entertainment are looking at to direct the last film in the franchise starring Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson.
According to The Los Angeles Times, Daldry joins Gus van Sant (‘Milk’), Sofia Coppola (‘Lost in Translation’) and Bill Condon (‘Dreamgirls’) in the running for the film, which could see the vampire love story be split into two parts.
Pattinson recently told MTV News that he think Gus van Sant would be great for the job: “He shoots everything in Portland. He’s good at making it look beautiful… It’s all about teenage love and obsessions. I think Gus Van Sant would be great.” At the end of the day, van Sant is no stranger to making serious films about teenagers, just look at ‘Elephant’ or ‘Paranoid Park’.
So it appears that Summit are taking this final chapter of the Stephanie Meyer ‘Twilight Saga’ in a different direction to the previous ‘Twilight’ and ‘New Moon’ by looking at Academy rated directors (with no offence to Catherine Hardwicke, Chris Weitz or David Slade). Could we be expecting an epic picture for the finale? We will just have to watch and see what happens in the coming months. If you cannot wait till then for your dosage of Edward and Bella, the third book adaption, ‘Eclipse’ will be released in cinemas in June 2010.
