AGFA has so far been rather clever in the films they have selected for their releases. Dishing out a few unexpected gems and a few down right stinkers for us all to chew over. When however, you see they have sent out GODMONSTER OF INDIAN FLATS to the world, you have to be a little tickled. The delights of a stalking sheep, bent on murder and kids parties, is the sort of film that AGFA is designed for. Directed by artist Fredric C. Hobbs, who delighted in deranged and delightful, this monster movie is a lot of things, you wouldn’t expect. Certainly well directed, cleverly produced and narrating a universally connecting story (boy gets cheated and seeks retribution). However then the film and the plot, go off the deep end, into crazy country. Also a monster sheep hunts for blood.
This release has a lot going for it. The 4K has been kind. Making the very ‘interesting’ directorial choices, actually gain cohesion. This is me simply saying that they actually look good enough to understand the directors ideas. This is me also saying that they add a new perspective to the film makers talent. Also of interest is the THE LEGEND OF BIGFOOT (1975) and its 2K scan. The film itself sometimes is a test in patience but the scan reveals that the monster is better designed and the film, better edited than I remember…
