FIVE CORNERS BLU RAY REVIEW

It is fair to say, as I close out my film reviewing career (August end is my signing off), that I do hope that some of the great labels I have reviewed for, keep up their good work. One such is Signal One, a small but very energetic label that has released over the years, really very good films. Another added to the list is FIVE CORNERS, a neighbourhood drama that exposes the time of a nations dreaming to the harsh reality of the human condition. The Bronx neighborhood of Five Corners in 1964 was a world away from what it would be twenty years later. These seeds of change are in the air and into this falls a troubled teen called Heinz (John Turturro). He is a one note monster. Clearly mentally unstable and suffering from a form of psychosis that will spill out into rage.

He has form. He tried to rape Linda (Foster) a woman he is obsessed by, two years prior and was only stopped by Harry (Tim Robbins) and a heavy thud to his head that has left a scar. This was after he crippled Jamie (Todd Graff) by breaking his hip in two places. In the midst of all this are two teenage girls, a pair of delinquents and a penguin. Which ultimately leads us to a confrontation and a conclusion with an arrow point in the back. I might not think that there is much to add, due to no extras (I could find the commentary on the disc I received) but this looks great after its various runnings on other DVDs and it is a film that still delivers a timely commentary on the power of change and how it is often packed into time and trials, forgotten by all….
