There are some films where the mere suggestion of something terrible can be worse than actually seeing it, because, like reading a book – you imagine the horror in your own mind.

Saw, is not one of those. Saw went all out for guts and glory. It shows everything in gruesome detail, i guess thats why so many people have loved it and it has spawned 4 sequels, with another in the pipeline.

I know this is not the latest of film reviews but i thought it relevant due to the impact it is still having on the horror genre, and with the new film coming soon, its always best to start from the beginning.

Saw is actually quite intelligent despite the fact it goes so over the top with the graphic scenes. The film starts with 2 men awaking, chained up in a disused bathroom, with a dead guy between them. All there is to help is a tape recorder… something you will become very familiar with if you watch any more of the films.

Basically they are offered obscene choices if they want to live – such as; saw through your leg with a hacksaw or stay there and rot to death. Its gruesome and its great. All masterminded by the man they call ‘Jigsaw’. This film breathed new life into the horror genre and many have tried to imitate it since copycat films have sprung up all over the place, but they are copying the violence only – not the ingenuity that was the other key to this films success.

I really don’t want to ruin any of it, so please don’t read too many film reviews, don’t watch too many film clips… just watch the film… and not on your own!
