They  now must prevent the foreclosure of the Roman Catholic orphanage in which said raising happened. To do so, they must reunite their R&B band, then raise $5,000 that is needed to pay the orphanage’s property tax bill and then get it to the IRS office before the deadline. Well in steps you… It’s 106 miles to Chicago. You have a full tank of gas and you’re wearing sunglasses…. So lets HIT IT! But wait. On your tail is those pesky cops and their equally powerful Dodge Monaco to chase you down!

C4322 Blues Brothers Dodge Monaco – ‘Bluesmobile’

Now first things first, each vehicle is sold separately! We found that this is a boon for those who like the old fantasy race outs of say BACK TO THE FUTURE or BATMAN vs THE BLUES BROTHERS. The ‘Bluesmobile’ is the Dodge Monaco in black that El and Jules ride. This version (for I am told another is in existence minus speaker) comes with a speaker on top from the later parts of the film. Is about as close to an exact replica as I have seen. What you get is a lovely car that, though modelled on a film prop is a thing of beauty in its own right, to be honest. Forget the two in the drivers and passenger set, think more the nice solid detail of the scraps and scuffs of the car, the extra functions of rear and front lights and a weight. The addition of the speaker actually stabilises the drive on faster settings, which meant we could ramp it up and out run the cops.

C4407 Dodge Monaco – Blues Brothers – Chicago Police

Now you will need the cops to chase you, if you want to be true to the Blues… The police have a more polished and in my humble opinion, less fun run around to catch the brothers. There is no sense of the fun of the former but thanks to the magnetism, the holding is still good (though corners are a little dicey at speed). Scalextric might have sensed that to over play the cop car would lessen the Blues car impact. Sensible. they also cleverly seem to have added a few touches to the cops experience, with flashing lights and a rather stressed figure in the car adds to the impact. There is really good Youtube discussions on the two and well worth looking at for those who are interested.
