So as Xmas day comes sprinting into our lives, we have a moment to catch our breath and think, what fun and entertainment can we have just before the big day? Well maybe watch a Terry Pratchett’s first Discworld animation for kids MAURICE THE CAT. Maurice is a streetwise ginger cat, with attitude and a feeling of being cool. After a money-making scam of making friends with talking rats, no less, goes wrong, fun will be had for all!
So the kids are going to adore this, but maybe you could supplement the joys, with these two great offerings from Laurence King games!
THE AMAZING MAURICE CATCH THE RAT GAME
PLAYERS 2-6 / AGES 8+ / 10 minutes
Thinking Happy Families but for fans of the just watched movie THE AMAZING MAURICE. Matching pairs of characters on cards from the movie AMAZING MAURICE sounds simple enough but with other players scheming as much as Maurice and his band of rat-scammers, its going to be difficult. Collecting every cast member, the rats, Bad Blintz, Malicia and more. The game isnt weighty, dishing out a few games of fun and a little silliness but it is to be commended for its simplicity and the accompanying booklet is great at outlining the source novels more nuanced bits.

THE AMAZING MAURICE JIGSAW
PLAYERS 1 + / AGES 10+ / 30 minutes
There were some concerns about the size and scale of the jigsaw. Was it too small, being only 200 pieces. Is it too big at 14 1/8 x 19 1/2 in once completed? Could it be too much for children at this size? Will Maurice mischievously scupper all as they work to complete the picture? The jigsaw image is simple enough. Thanks in part to the accompanying poster, it really builds itself. It is easy to build and not going to over exert big jigsaw heads. Kids will probably stick the 200 pieces as it builds quick enough.
