The year is 2019 and we are treated to an outstanding vision of the future from director Ridley Scott. Blade Runner is based on the book ‘Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?’ by Philip K Dick. The more recent ‘Minority Report’ is another film based on one of his stories.
We follow the story of Rick Deckard, who is a Blade Runner – a cop in a division of the LAPD in charge of terminating ‘replicants’. Replicants are robotic/human clones designed to do jobs that humans don’t want to.
6 particularly dangerous replicants escape from a colony and travel to Earth. Deckard is charged with bringing them to justice.
This is an amazing film and posts a really very bleak version of the future – but at the same time, its very believable. It poses some very deep questions about life, what it means and what its like to have emotions.
There are some strong performances from the lead characters and i challenge you to find any film review that says this is not a fantastic film. It is a true classic and who knows how close to the truth it may be by 2019… only another 10 years to wait.
