So last night as well as confirming that Alice in Wonderland wont be screening at Odeons the BBC claimed they understood that meanwhile Vue had reached an agreement with Disney. The Guardian also ran with this story but several other news sites like sky seem to be claiming that Vue had joined the boycott officially. However they have no sources and this Sky movies article claiming that a skynews article announced this actually linked to an article confirming the Odeon boyoctt with no such statement from Vue, and after I pointed this out to them they have since removed the link.
After speaking to Vue and being reassured they were just about to make an announcement here it finally is…
“Vue will be showing Disney and Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland at all of its 69 state of the art cinemas across the UK and the Republic of Ireland from 5 March.”
So there you have it from the horses mouth – they will be screening the film so its just Odeon who have yet to back down. Vue’s statement outlines how they have agreed with Disney to allow shorter release dates with a limited number of their releases. So what do you think – will Odeon now also concede?
