Terrence Malick‘s upcoming film The Tree of Life has finally been given a UK release date of July 8.

As reported in April, Icon – the company that held distribution rights for the UK, Australia and New Zealand – had scheduled a UK release ahead of its Cannes premiere. That company’s plans were put on hold, however, presumably after a legal battle with US distributor Fox Searchlight and international distributor Summit International.

Now, Fox Searchlight has acquired UK distribution rights from Bill Pohlad’s River Road Entertainment, which financed the film.

Malick’s film – his first since 2005’s The New World – stars Brad Pitt and Sean Penn and won the Palme d’Or at Cannes last month.
