Despite both Avatar and The Hurt Locker having picked up a few awards each at this point in the ceremony, the momentum may just be lying with Bigelow’s The Hurt Locker for the big award at the end – Best Picture.
Avatar has won the visual awards it was expected to win but the more open categories where both have been nominated or others were expected to win has seen The Hurt Locker triumph. This may suggest the voters have all been preferring Bigelow’s Iraq thriller to Cameron’s Pandoran sci-fi.
It’s still in the balance but at this point in proceedings, Cameron’s looking less likely to be ‘king of the world’ again than he was a few hours ago.
