As part of this years Video Sound Music Festival 2011, there are 2 special events dedicated to the Musical Universe of Horror music.
In Part I, you can expect 3 terrifying performances celebrating horror, presented by Sound and Music (SAM). The first features Vicki Bennett (aka People Like Us).
Lee Hangjun presents After Psycho Shower, deconstructing Hitchcock’s Psycho shower scene, and John Carpenter collaborator Alan Howarth performs selections from Halloween, Escape From New York and more.
Part II features film critics Stephen Thrower and Kim Newman, who are joined by Friday 13th composer Harry Manfredini to take the audience on a visual and anecdotal journey through the iconic music moments in horror film history and celebrate the key figures that shaped the sound of musical menace over the last 70 years.
This is followed by A Musical Compendium of Horror – a new arrangement by acclaimed ensemble Zeitkratzer, combining traditional horror film score techniques and carefully crafted theatrical lighting and sound design. Zeikratzer plunge the audience into a truly chilling sound world of tension, fear and unease.
Please note:
Sound of Fear Part I and Part II are unsuitable for people under the age of 15 due the graphic nature of the horror scenes accompanying the live performances and referenced in the ‘From Hammer to Halloween’ panel discussion.
