Disney darling Selena Gomez is dropping the wizard wand and making her transition to the big screen with her upcoming romantic-comedy Monte Carlo.
The 20th Century Fox film features some of Hollywood’s hottest rising young starlets, including Gossip Girl’s Leighton Meester and A Nightmare on Elm Street star Katie Cassidy. The movie, hitting theatres on July 1 2011 is set to be a summertime scorcher for tweens around the globe. Another big name associated with the film is Nicole Kidman, who co-produced Monte Carlo along with Denise Di Novi.
The film’s plot is loosely based on a Jules Bass novel entitled ‘Headhunters’ and sees three friends embarking on a dream holiday to Paris. The trip turns out to be a disaster until Gomez gets mistaken for British Heiress Cordelia, and all three girls are whisked into a life of luxury in Monte Carlo.
It’s rumoured that Gomez spent months perfecting her British accent and refining her polo-playing skills to really commit to this role, which she believes is marking a turning point in her career. Guess we’ll have to wait to July to see if Justin Bieber’s girl can bring that small screen magic to the movies
