Sandra Bullock secured his first Oscar for her role in The Blind Side at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday night. A slimline Forrest Whittaker paid tribute to her in the pre-award introduction. The actress now has an Academy Award to place next to the Razzie she won for her performance in All About Steve just 24 hours before.
The other nominees were Carey Mulligan, Gabourey Sidibe, Helen Mirren and Meryl Streep. Sean Penn, last year’s Best Actor winner, took to the stage to present Sandra with her award which she looked simply overwhelmed to be receiving, asking the audience: “did I earn this, or did I just wear you all down.”
She took the time to pay tribute to all her fellow nominees, even adding a little humour to her speech along the way. She said she expected this to be a “once in the lifetime” experience. Towards the end of the speech she just about managed to hold back the tears in what was one of the night’s better speeches. All the major awards, up to this point in the night, have gone to the pre-ceremony favourites.
