The Hollywood Reporter have rumoured that Rise of the Planet of the Apes and The Help star, David Oyelowo is in talks to join the cast of One Shot, the Lee Child 2005 crime thriller that is being adapted by Christopher McQuarrie (screenwriter on The Usual Suspects & The Tourist) and starring Tom Cruise as the main character, Jack Reacher.
One Shot is a Paramount-Skydance adaptation of a the novel that centres on Jack Reacher, an ex-Army operative who never leaves a trace wherever he is. One Shot is the ninth Reacher novel where, he becomes sucked into the mystery surrounding the arrest of a sniper accused of killing five random people in a shooting.
Oyelowo is said to play a veteran homicide detective investigating the shooting.
In August, THR reported that Rosamund Pike will play Cruise’s love interest.
One Shot is preparing for a shooting later this year, with a release date due for February 2013.
So what do you think of the casting decisions thus far? As a fan of the Jack Reacher series, I am intrigued by the ways in which the producers are going. Cruise as Reacher could either go very well or very badly, but he must remember he isn’t playing Ethan from Mission Impossible. As for the rest of the casting? It seems like quite an up to date cast.
