BAFTA Nominations

bafta-logo-official

So Round two of voting is over as the BAFTA longlists have been whittled down to the official 5 BAFTA nominees for each category. Top winners are An Education, Avatar and the Hurt Locker with 8 nominations each. There’s not many big surprises and a few of the films that are missing that have already picked up Golden Globe nominations and awards last week aren’t going to be released in time for the BAFTA nominations window so may be nominated next year instead, such as Sandra Bullocks role in Blind Side. Apart from the usual lists of Hollywood stars and well known faces theres a lot of newcomers and not so big names on the list such as Andy Serkis nomination for his role in the Ian Dury biopic Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll for leading actor. Another newcomer is found in the Supporting Actor category for newcomer Christian McKay for his role in Me And Orson Welles. The most pleasing thing is the number of smaller British films that have got nominations outside the British categories with not only An Education but Nowhere Boy and Moon both also picking up quite a few deserving nods.

The BAFTA’s will take place on February 21 at the Royal Opera House in London so it’s a waiting game until then to see if any of these newcomers will actually win! The full list of BAFTA Nominations is below –
