Arnold Schwarzenegger in his Last Stand

Arnold Schwarzenegger, former Governor of California, is set to return to Hollywood in his first leading role since 2003’s Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines.

After impressing Lionsgate president Joe Drake with his cameo in The Expendables, the 63 – year- old has snagged a role in The Last Stand as  Sheriff Owens, a town sheriff who goes head to head with a drug gang.

Joe Drake is hoping that Arnie’s previous roles will allow him to ‘elevate this high-octane ride’. There is no release date for the film so far, but South Korean director Kim Ji-Woon, whose previous works include psychological horror A Tale of Two Sisters, is reported to be taking the directorial reigns on The Last Stand.

With filming  starting in September, the director has descried the film as a combinaiton of Die Hard and High Noon. Having recently made the headlines with a series of scandals,  the ex-politician will have to put in a stunning performance to re-establish his place as Hollywood’s leading man.
