Keira Knightley and Jude Law nominated for Olivier theatre awards

Hollywood bigshots Keira Knightley, Jude Law, and Rachel Weisz were nominated for Laurence Olivier Awards on Monday, British theatre’s top accolades.

Anderson and Weisz are both up for the best actress category for their efforts in A Doll’s House and A Streetcar Named Desire. The other nominees in the category are Juliet Stevenson (for Duet For One), Lorraine Burroughs (The Mountaintop), and Imelda Staunton for Entertaining Mr Sloane. Keira Knightley was nominated for a best supporting actress award for The Misanthrope, her first ever West End theatre production.

For the best actor category, Jude Law was shortlisted for his portrayal of the title role of Shakespeare’s Hamlet, while James McAvoy was nominated for Three Days of Rain. The most nominations went to THe Royal Court Theatre, which got 15 nominations in total. The Donmar follwed with 10, and the National Theatre close behind with 9.

Generally, The West End theatre industry saw a good year with sales of over 500 million pounds, and over 14 million seats attended through the course of the year. A full list of category nominees will be out on the 31st of March.
