Mulholland Drive Blu Ray Review

AMD4 car crash. A beautiful woman. The house left for the summer. The head unable to remember. Young woman living at her Aunts. The man at Winkies who sees his own death. The dumpster with the homeless man. The people who know something, that want something. Choose the woman with a face to select. The affair which paints a picture. A body on a bed that is decayed.

MDHEADWhat Mulholland Drive is, in my most humble opinion is a film about duality. It is about how two things can not only represent the same thing but can also be of something utterly different to each other at the same time. It is a neo noir but that is not its point. It is a identity crisis film about Hollywood but that is to miss its other more subtle subtext. It is a Lynch film but it is also an easier watch that much of his later work. It is as good as Blue Velvet and that is saying something.

MD1The other thing of note is that Mulholland Drive is a film of the shifts. That is the shifts between these points of duality. This is where the film comes together as something else. Something that is exceptional enough to discuss in the future. In the variety of discourse to come.

MD2The 4K restoration is lush and as it was overseen by Lynch we expected that to be the case. The extras are good enough to eat in some cases and in others standard fare. The Back to Mulholland drive is a worthy watch. Filled with the detail from hindsight. The interviews add nothing of note in my opinion bar Lynch and Badalamenti. The inside the Blue Box feature is worth the price of the Blu alone…
