Before seeing This Is It, I was aware of Jacksons influence on Music, the Industry and his fans through the portrayal of his high profile life in the media.
Watching This Is It, I’ve realized one thing above all. How much of a superstar and influence Michael Jackson really was.
Opening with comments from backing dancers set for the show, we witness how much of a presence Jackson had over them during the brief time they had spent rehearsing together. One particular dancer from Australia shows how strong his feelings are towards Jackson and being able to perform alongside him by becoming overwhelmed with sadness.
This film was not made to attract audiences that want to watch Jackson for the last time, it was made so that we could see what Jackson was all about, in his element. On this basis, producer Kenny Ortega chooses to focus on not only Jackson’s stage rehearsals, but also his involvements off stage. This includes fine tuning the various musicians, showing the dancers how to be more creative, and also sharing words of wisdom with the camera itself.
No he doesn’t look his best in the film, but watching This Is It was a great thing for me because I realized how much of a loss Jackson really is to the world. The film shows us his many talents as a world class performer – singing and dancing, effortlessly working the stage from side to side.
At 50 years of age, Jackson is seen to be showing his backing dancers how to move and how to give a truly memorable performance to the crowd, something that only the true king of Pop could do.
