Last week I posted about the family and its new series focusing on the Grewals. This weeks installment of the grewals focused on the marriage of Kaki and Jeet, a helpless couple with problems like any other.
Kaki isnt happy with Jeets drinking, and Jeet isnt happy with Kakis “treating him like a dog all the time”. Being pregnant, its slightly inevitable that Kaki is highly strung and somewhat demanding, however the documentary does show the obvious love between the two. As they try and work out their issues, they have to try and manage their self made theatre company and their little baby girl. No easy task as they decide to move back in with Kakis parents to help lighten the load.
Personally, I found Kakis nature quite annoying and very brash towards Jeet. I dont know if this is down to her pregnancy or just her general personality but seeing her chomping on biscuits and then letting go at Jeet wasnt really great fun. Is this the portrayal of a typical asian marriage in western society? Most certainly not, although some of the themes that were highlighted are common, so well done the Family for that.
A note to end this week is what is with C4s consistent questioning of the familys personal statuses regarding their sex lives? I dont know why this would be such an important question within any household and am a bit quizzical about the motives behind this reoccuring question…. Any thoughts?
