Starring: Liam Neeson, Famke Janssen, Leland Orser
I was surprised by how good this film was. I wasn’t expecting much but then sometimes those are the best ones.
The film starts with retired FBI agent Bryan Mills played by Liam Neeson desperately trying to keep alive a relationship with his daughter who now lives with her mother and a new rich husband, who can buy her anything she wants.
What she wants is a trip to Europe with her friend, but only her real father can authorise the relevant paperwork. After initially being very reluctant, he agrees to sign and off she goes.
When the 2 young girls arrive in Paris they end up sharing a taxi with a young lad, but all is not as it seems. Bryan calls his daughter at a critical moment and discovers the 2 girls are just about to be abducted as part of a human trafficking ring… and so it begins. The ex-FBI agent tracking his daughter across Europe using the skills he has learned through his career.
This really is a great film, very gripping and some tense scenes throughout. It makes you feel the sense of desperation that any father would have faced with a situation like this. It is written by Luc Besson who directed ‘Leon’ and ‘Nikita’ and shows careful, well thought out plot developments. It has shades of the Bourne films in its style and is a very accomplished piece of work.
