The original Donnie Darko has became a legendary cult classic and i was not surprised to see there had been a sequel. However i was surprised it has slipped through the net and ended up straight to DVD… always a worrying sign.
With this film, the S is for Samantha… Samantha Darko, the sister of the Donnie. Sam is having troubles at home and so sets off on the road with her close friend Corey heading for L.A.
They have the predictable car trouble in a small desert town and the girls are stranded. Like Donnie, Sam begins to have hallucinations/nightmares predicting the end of the world. Sam realises that she must face her own demons that she has been trying to run away from.
It is filmed with style, full of classic science geeks the notions of time travel. One thing however that is lacking, that set the first film off so well is the music. The soundtrack is very lacklustre.
Its no where near an oscar winner but if you were a die-hard fan of the original you will enjoy this but it will never live up to the cult status of Donnie.
