Asian comedians are very hard to come by. Especially Asian comedians with English names, that is extremely rare. Along comes Russell Peters from Canada. What a funny guy! I haven’t had the privilege of going to one of his live shows (I don’t think he has been to the UK more than twice). But I have been watching his clips on YouTube. I have to say, his sketches on the wider Asian community are fantastic, especially his interpretations of the Chinese community. “BE A MAN!” bloody brilliant.
Im not sure whats different about this guy, but I think that his attack on the non white communities is what gives him an edge from the standard comedians. He doesnt really hold back and this is somethign that everyone can laugh about, including the asians that he is ripping into.
Unfortunately, there isn’t much material on YouTube of his, so I’ve reverted to trying to find DVDs of his that I can buy over here. Russell Peters two most popular shows are “show me the funny” and “Outsourced”. He has just released a new comedy sketch entitled “Red, White, and Brown”. Ive seen Show me the funny and this is the one ive ordered. I haven’t seen Red White and Brown but my friends who have seen it have said his new material rocks.
