Generally its a worry when film makers put a tag line on the front of the box, such as here with Outlander – ‘from the producer of Lord of The Rings’. Its normally a warning sign to steer clear. I didn’t take my own advice!
In addition to that is when you get a quote saying the film is like ‘Braveheart’ meets ‘Predator’ as is the description with this film. It says to me that this film is really poor and the distributors thought, i know we’ll cross reference it with some successful films and add more weight to ours. Dirty tricks.
Outlander is set in 709DC during the Iron Age. The film begins with a space craft crash landing in water somewhere near to a Norweigan village. The passenger of the craft is a man who is known as Kainan (James Caviezel). He had been transporting an alien monster known as a Moorwen. Now free the Moorwen terrorises the locals and causes much havoc.
Initially Kainan is blamed for the death and destruction thats been going in. They soon realise that the Moorwen is responsible and then they join forces with the local Viking types in a bid to defeat the monster.
The plot is reasonable but predictable. The script is terrible. The whole thing is generally pretty lack lustre. There are still plenty of people out there who will love this film and consider it a sci-fi classic but unfortunately i was not one of them.
