Unfortunately Nikita never really got the credit it deserved and why i thought i’d bring it to your attention now… Like my previous post its not the most current movie review but a great film is great no matter how old.
It was one of the first films to star a woman as the lead character in the action context. It has now achieved cult status but got very much glossed over as a new film release.
After killing a cop, Nikita is arrested and has to choose between either being executed or training as a government assassin. Not much of a choice then! She is given a new identity and rebranded as “Josephine”, with a new set of killing skills and a seductive look she becomes an unstoppable force.
Nikita re-defined the femme fatale image for a modern generation and is a classy piece of week. Directed by Luc Besson who has created some film gold in his career, inlcuding films like ‘Leon’ which is in a similar vein to this one. He obviously has a passion for the hitman/woman theme!
The main actress was nomiated for a Cesar Award for best actress, its a shame it wasn’t best actress as the festival de cannes.
