New Dvd releases this week – 12th October 2009

This weeks latest film round up to DVD.

The Proposal
Starring: Sandra Bullock,

Although I cant believe Sandras still doing the circuit (how many crap films has she got under her belt now), I can believe that her new romcom The Proposal will be out to DVD this week. Bullock (s:) plays Margaret, a pushy executive thats very brash in her approach, pissing pretty much all of her staff off. When problems arise with her immigration and shes threatened with deportation back to canada, Margaret announces that she is engaged to her assistant Andrew. All seems to be going ok until an immigration officer that is working over his paygrade decides to try and catch the duo out. The Proposal sees the pair go out to Alaska to celebrate Andrews grandmothers birthday, at which point a very head strong Margaret learns a thing or two…

Verdict: A nice little romcom, good if nothign else is on and you have it lieing around. Alternatives:

  • Forgetting Sarah Marshall
    Meet The Parents
    Hitch
  • Walled In
    Starring: Mischa Barton

The title of this film really does give you the underpinning plotline of the film. Walled In tells the story of Sam Walczxak, an engineer that is drafted in to supervise the demolition of a strange, uninhabited building. Arriving on site, Sam begins to learn the buildings past and horrific secrets, the biggest being its tenants entombed alive within its walls…

Working hard and fast to get hersef out of danger, Sams only hope of surviving this knightmare is unravelling the mystery of the architect who built the building and entombed its tenants. If she doesnt, she may end up walled in… Buy it now from play.com

Verdict: A good film, Mischa Barton does well to transition into this film from the plain old days of the OC.

    Coraline
Voices: Dakota Fanning, Teri Hatcher & Keith David

An animated tim burton type flick, Coraline is an 11 year old girl that find a secret world through a secret door at the back of her house. As coraline adjusts to this seemingly similiar world, she discovers that the great adventures she is having soon turn nasty, and its not long before Coraline realises she needs to get back to her own, real world to save her family. Only the 11 year olds bravery, determination and resourcefullness can get her back and away from the doom that awaits her.

Verdict: I saw this movie in the cinema and Id definately reccomend it. It seemed to me a cross between Guillermo del Toro’s hit film Pans Labyrinth and Tim Burtons A nightmare before christmas, both of which were masterpieces of production and worthy of our viewing time.

Star Wars: Clone Wars Vol.2 – Clone Commandos

The Clone Wars follow on directly from Star Wars – Episode 2, Attack of the Clones. The TV series largely focuses on the travels of the legendary Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker, his young apprentice destined to fall to the darkside… Along their travels, the Clone Wars introduce us to new characters that do not feature in the films, such as Ahsoka, a girl jedi that works closely with Anakin to help keep peace amongst the stars.

Verdict: The star wars (Even though I only watched them all late last year) are all amazing. If you loved the films then you will thoroughly enjoy the clone wars. Check them out and add them to your collection of Star Wars dvds.
