Starring: Willem Dafoe, Edward Furlong, Danny Trejo, Mickey Rourke
This is your typical prison drama. The older inmate or convict as they prefer to be called is Earl Copen (Willem Dafoe) who takes the young pup Ron Decker (Edward Furlong) under his wing.
Copen has been inside for 18 years and Decker has just been sentanced after selling a bit of weed to his posh mates. The film follows the ups and downs of the newbie as he is shown the ropes of how to survive inside by the old pro.
The original story is based on a book of the same name by Eddie Bunker, who you may remember played Mr Blue in ‘Reservoir Dogs’, the film is also directed by Steve Buscemi who played Mr Pink.
Eddie himself pops up a couple of times as a cleaner and there is also a transvestite character played by Mickey Rourke.
As a story, its well told but to be honest its pretty boring. Prison dramas often can be a bit of a bore. There are very few that actually do well. Inevitably the pair plan a breakout but, do they achieve it?
