Roman Polanski refused bail

The Swiss justice ministry has refused to grant bail to Roman Polanski, the film director who had sex with a thirteen year old over 30 years ago.

The ministry said that Polanski is a high risk, as he has already fled once, and if granted bail, might flee again. As it stands, America have not yet requested extradition, however given Polanskis stature its expected that this is a high priority for the American state and they will be actioning it shortly. Under Swiss law, America has 60 days to make the formal request which would see Polanksi return to the states to go on trial.

Interestingly, the French and Polish have asked for his release, whilst there has been angry backlash from other countries regarding how Polanksi is dealt with.

My personal opinion is that Polanski knew what he was doing and that the girl was only thirteen at the time. Giving her champagne and drugs in an attempt to sleep with her is unlawful and wrong. He should be punished for the crime that he committed.
