‘Restrepo’ Director rumoured dead after attack

Tim Hetherington, the Oscar Nominated Director of Restrepo is rumoured to have been killed after an attack in Misrati. He was reportedly caught in an attack between Libyan Rebels and Muammar Gaddafi’s soldiers, alongside photographer Chris Hondros.  The news came after photographer, Andrew Liohn wrote on his Facebook:

‘Sad news Tim Hetherington died in Misrata now when covering the front line. Chris Hondros is in a serious status. Michel Brown and Guy are wounded but fine.’

Last night, Hetherington Tweeted:

‘In besieged Libyan city of Misrata. Indiscriminate shelling by Qaddafi forces. No sign of NATO.’

Tim Hetherington was an accomplished photographer and exhibited his visual flair in his directing debut, Restrepo. The documentary won the Grand Jury prize at the 2010 Sundance, and was nominated at the Academy Awards.

Tim Hetherington’s fate is yet to be confirmed.
