Polanski debating return to US for rape trial

One month after his arrest in Switzerland, acclaimed director roman Polanski is considering facing justice back in the US so that he can avoid lengthy extradition procedures where he is currently being held in Swizerland.

“If the procedure drags on, it is not impossible that Roman Polanski could choose to go and explain himself in the United States, where there are some arguments in his favour,” Georges Kiejman told France’s Europe1 radio.

A fugitive of the law since 1978, Polanski was refused bail posing risk of flight, leaving his lawyers struggling to get him released. Todays news reports also detail that Polanskis arrest was a result of Swiss Officials notifying the US of his whereabouts, not the US notifiying the Swiss.

Courts in Washington have until 25th November to file for the extradition of Polanski to the US for trial, until which time Polanski can continue to request bail from the Swiss, although its very unlikely this will be granted.

More from front row reviews as and when it comes through.
