Oscar winning American actor, Philip Seymour Hoffman has been found dead in his New York apartment, aged 46. Hoffman’s body was discovered by a friend this morning and preliminary investigations by the DEA claim Hoffman may have died from a heroin overdose. A needle was found in his arm with traces of the class A substance when he was found unconscious in his bathroom.
The Hoffman’s family announced the following statement:
“We are devastated by the loss of our beloved Phil and appreciate the outpouring of love and support we have received from everyone. This is a tragic and sudden loss and we ask that you respect our privacy during this time of grieving. Please keep Phil in your thoughts and prayers.”
Several actors have poured in their condolences and tributes to Hoffman and his family.
Jim Carrey tweeted “Dear Philip, a beautiful beautiful soul,” “For the most sensitive among us the noise can be too much. Bless your heart.”
Hunger Games Co actor Sam Claflin tweeted on his account – “PSH – I am genuinely shocked, saddened and speechless. A truly wonderful man, with a magical touch. My hero. Thoughts are with his family,”
Back In 2006 , Hoffman revealed in an interview that he had struggled with drug and alcohol abuse. He told celebrity news website TMZ that he reached out for help over his addiction. Reports claimed last year the 46 year old suffered a relapse and was omitted into a detox facility.
In 2005, Hoffman won the Academy Award for best actor for his leading role in Capote, a film based on Truman Capote, a 20th Century novelist who’s stories have said to have inspired over 20 films and television dramas.
Hoffman was undergoing the production of the following installments of the Hunger Games franchise.
