Harry Potter author JK Rowling is set to make her onscreen debut in a Harry Potter spin off series. The first installment will be titled “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” and will be distributed by Warner Bros. The major conglomerate corporation have said the series is part of an “expanded creative partnership” between themselves and Rowling. JK revealed on her Facebook page:
‘It all started when Warner Bros came to me with the suggestion of turning Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them into a film.
The movie will feature Newt Scamander, the fictional author of the textbook Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them which is owned by Harry Potter at Hogwarts school.
“As I considered Warners’ proposal, an idea took shape that I couldn’t dislodge. That is how I ended up pitching my own idea for a film to Warner Bros.
“Although it will be set in the worldwide community of witches and wizards where I was so happy for 17 years, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is neither a prequel nor a sequel to the Harry Potter series, but an extension of the wizarding world.
“The laws and customs of the hidden magical society will be familiar to anyone who has read the Harry Potter books or seen the films, but Newt’s story will start in New York, 70 years before Harry’s gets underway.”
There is yet to be any confirmation as to when filming will begin. JK is well known for writing the best selling franchise of all time. Harry Potter. Her seven Harry Potter books are also the best selling book series of all time, having sold more than 450 million copies. Since the first film was released in 2001, there have been seven sequel films produced, which have gone on to gross £4.8 billion. The Harry Potter brand is reported to be worth over a staggering £15 billion.
