Anna Faris and Jenifer Garner are set to star in a new comedy The Bachelorette Party, in what appears to be, put simply, ‘The Hangover with chicks’. The script comes from Karen Lutz (who also wrote The House Bunny, Legally Blonde and 10 Things I Hate About You) will see a jilted teacher throwing a bachelorette party for her uptight cousin – the uptight role presumably Garner’s – who is coincidentally marrying her male best friend. After a alcohol-fuelled evening the cousin cheats on her fiancé and the teacher must decide where her loyalties lie.
It seems the pair will be staying safely within their comfort zones for this project, which was presumably green-lit on the back of Todd Phillips’ films success last summer. Peter Segal, director and executive producer of 2008’s Get Smart will be producing the film alongside Lutz but no director is attached as of yet. The involvement of Anna Faris would suggest this is going to be a stinker as most of her comedies are devoid of laughs, despite herself being pretty funny. In terms of box office though I’d bet on this being a success, the female leads will draw in the girls and the guys will be hoping for a Hangover repeat with a dose of female debauchery.
