Catch any movie at home, but don’t abandon the cinema

In today’s economically stringent times, if you can reduce costs on entertainment by staying in, it’s a sensible option to take. So nights out have generally become rarer, whether it’s to go out for dinner to catch a movie at the cinema or to go out clubbing.

Of course, many of us can catch up on the latest movies at home, either downloading them via a broadband connection or through TV services such as Sky. You can click here for Sky Broadband packages to see the different TV, phone and broadband bundles that are on offer. If you have Sky Movies, it’s worth getting an On Demand connector from Sky too. This gives you access to more than 800 movies whenever you want to watch them, rather than having to wait for them to come along on the normal programming schedule. The choice includes classic 80s favourites like Back to the Future as well as the most recent releases like Jack Reacher.

With the high quality of home TVs today, watching a movie at home is almost as good as watching it in the cinema, but somehow a little of the magic of a night out at the cinema is lost when you try to replicate it at home. Sky has obviously recognised this and as part of the Sky Rewards scheme for its customers, the company has included the chance to grab free cinema tickets for the latest cinema releases. This month, there’s a chance to win tickets to watch Sunshine On Leith before it’s available on cinema schedules after 4 October. Sky customers can claim two tickets on a first come first served basis for an advance screening near them.

Sunshine on Leith is a great heart-warming story for the autumn and is the story of two friends – Davy and Ally – who have returned from serving in Afghanistan and are getting used to being back to ‘normal life’ in Edinburgh. Things have changed in their absence and its tough making the transition from life on the front line to life with their families, mates and their jobs. However, it’s the strength of solid friendships that helps them through this period where they’re getting acclimatized to life in the civilian world again.

Directed by actor Dexter and with a cast that includes Peter Mullan (Rab), Jason Flemyng (Harry) and Jane Horrocks (Jean), George MacKay (Davy) and Kevin Guthrie (Ally), this is a movie that will have you gripped. The cast sing a lot of thumping musical numbers from The Proclaimers which adds to the emotional nature that this movie has. Check out the final scene where a 500-strong group sing the Proclaimers’ classic ‘500 miles’ – talk about uplifting!
