Anne Hathaway to join Jackman on ‘Les Miserables’

Deadline have revealed this week that Anne Hathaway has closed the deal with Universal Pictures & Working Title Films to star in the musical adaptation of the 1987 Tony Award winning Musical and Victor Hugo’s 1862 novel, Les Miserables.

The One Day actress will be joining big names including Hugh Jackman and Russell Crowe in the Tom Cooper directed film, the latest from the director of the Oscar winning, The King’s Speech. News surrounding the addition of Hathaway to the cast has been making its rounds on the internet for quite a while now, but it has finally been confirmed that she is set to play the beautiful Fantine whilst Crowe is set to play Inspector Javert and Jackman is set to portray the protagonist, Jean Valjean. William Nicholson (Gladiator) wrote the script and the music is by Claude-Michel Schonberg and Alain Boublil.

The scheduled release for Les Miserables has been set by Universal who are trying to get into the race for the following Oscar season, proposing a December 7, 2012 release.

Hathaway is currently playing Catwoman in the Chris Nolan-directed The Dark Knight Rises for Warner Bros.
