Aamir Khan’s Peepli Live to go Germany before Berlinale

“Peepli Live”, a UTV Motion Pictures and Aamir Khan productions got brilliant reviews at the Sundance Film Festival. They were so good that Peepli Live has just been taken on by a German distribution company called Rapid Eye Movies. The release of Peepli Live in Germany is going to be sometime mid-2010. Rapid Eye Movies has also claimed the Home Video and Television territory.

Stephen Holl, owner of Rapid Eye comments, “We are thrilled to bring to the German audience a true Indian art house film that entertains whilst telling a serious story”.

Amrita Pandey of UTV Motion Pictures says, “Rapid Eye is an ideal distribution partner for us to plan a theatrical Germany release for the film”.

Peepli Live is the first Indian film ever to be selected at the Sundance Film Festival and is also screening at the Berlin Film Festival.

Critics, such as, Rob Nelson from Variety say, “A peppy screwball comedy with elements of social attire…Debuting writer-director Anusha Rizwi manages to wrest a lively feature out of a gravely serious issue, capturing the desperation of India’s village farmers, as well as the nation’s shift from sight of the entertainment principle.”
